Sharp lines with ASOS White

ASOS White shirt dress (currently out of stock: similar here and here) | ASOS robot clutch (and similar here) | Zara cut-out ankle boots (old: similar here and here)

I have a boyfriend blessed with many unique skills; Pete has a talent for accents (especially Geordie), he knows every single word of any nineties boyband track and, luckily for me, he’s fantastic at buying gifts. I’ve seen enough episodes of Don’t Tell The Bride to know that a man who can choose a great dress for a girl (without help!) is a rare and wonderful creature. Both the shirt dress and the robot clutch pictured here were presents from Pete for my 31st birthday earlier this year, and once again the boy done good.

These are both ASOS finds and, while the crazy robot bag was on my wishlist (obviously!) the dress was a complete surprise. I love the crisp white silhouette and inky colour-blocking on the hem, plus – speaking as a serial ASOS free returns abuser – I’m really impressed with the quality of the fabric. This is a cut above the standard collection, the clean lines and sharp tailoring making it feel a lot more expensive than the £60 price tag.

The rest of the ASOS White collection echoes this design ethos, with a focus on quality fabrics like crisp cotton, silk and organza, and simple shapes. If like me you’re easily overwhelmed by the pages and pages of clothes on the ASOS website, this collection is much more appealing, with just over 100 limited edition items. Shirt and t-shirt dresses feature heavily (which is fine by me) but there are also trousers, basic vest tops and t-shirts in structured cuts, and a few very covetable bags and shoes.  The emphasis is on clean block colours, although some striped beauties and funky grid checks add interest. My white shirt dress is currently out of stock but there’s plenty more in the collection that’s catching my eye right now…
